The music on Lorde's 'Melodrama' reflects the wealth of emotions the New Zealand native has experienced of late, and they’re rendered with the kind of poise we’ve come to expect from the pop superstar. Her voice, the melodies, the arrangements she’s chosen to help landscape her feelings - this critically-acclaimed second album is particularly fetching because the 20-year-old singer trusts her idiosyncrasies to fuel her eloquence. “Let’s let things come out of the woodwork,” she coos on “Homemade Dynamite.” That’s what makes the six performances of ‘Vevo X Lorde’ so powerful as well. All her best ideas naturally seep to the surface. Filmed at Electric Lady Sound Studios in New York’s West Village, the mid-August session found Lorde moving through key songs from ‘Melodrama,’ providing each with the proper temperament for the occasion. The set list features “The Louvre,” “Sober,” “Writer In The Dark,” “Supercut,” “Homemade Dynamite,” and “Hard Feelings”/ “Loveless” – she chose to spotlight some of the album’s most vivid moments. Whether backed by a small ensemble, playing the piano alone, or singing a cappella with a squad of vocalists and a beatbox, she brings invention and intensity to the performances. The soft addition of strings and brass adds to the show’s intimacy, and the drama that she’s built a rep on is central to every moment. Jack Antonoff of Bleachers, who produced and co-wrote parts of ‘Melodrama,’ arrives on “Writer In The Dark” to support his pal as well.

King Von - Took Her To The O (Vevo Ctrl)

Characterized by themes of violence and struggle, the experimental subgenre drill has chopped its place into the Chicago rap scene during the last decade, and one of it’s rising stars, King Von, has become a force to deal with. Born Dayvon Bennett, Von hails from the O Block neighborhood; at 25, he’s been in and out of jail three times. “The third time I was with Lil Durk,” he told Lip Service. “I got bonded out, we got money now.” A lot of that success has to do with Durk, a godfather of the drill game who brought in Von as a protege a few years ago. But it also has to do with Von’s own charisma - a balance between self-assured G swag and a natural charm that starts with his smile and ends with his humor. Take the name of his new project: the cover of ‘Levon James,’ depicts the MC in a Lakers jersey doing Bron’s signature chalk throw. A symbol of aspirational greatness, but a bit on the cheeky side. Von came in the Crtl box and rocked “Took Her to the O,” and another track from the album. Stay tuned. There’s more coming from the session.

Camila Cabello says that making her third album ‘Familia' was “fun, joyful, and easy.” That sentiment extends to our Official Live Performance collaboration, which was staged at a Simi Valley, California ranch where blockbuster films are shot. Cabello commanded the camera like an A-list actor while performing four songs from the new record. The album's tender artwork, with Camila embracing a young cousin, parallels its heartfelt title, and she's made it clear that this music was meant to explore her family's roots. Both Latin rhythms and Spanish-language vocals - imbued throughout the album - help in that goal. “Bam Bam" found Ed Sheeran joining the fun. Here, she swaps the Suffolk superstar for a quick-stepping crew of dancers. It’s the perfect kick off to this parade of performances - one that’ll put a smile on your face like Camila had at the end of the shoot.
