When @bastilledan sent me happier for the first time I was taken back. The amount of emotion that you could feel in the lyrics was crazy. As I listened to the song more and more it reminded me of so many things I’ve been through in my life. Toxic relationships, letting go of things I didn’t want to and just situations where happiness came with a sacrifice. Recently I lost my best friend, my companion, my life long friend. I wanted this video to embrace the pain that we feel losing or sacrificing something and the cycle of life that comes with it. I hope this song and video can bring closure in any situation you may be and make us all happier 💛

Born in Fayetteville, NC, Morae Ruffin’s formative music moment was singing “I Believe I Can Fly” in church at the behest of his ma and grandma. That gospel influence comes through strong on the singer/rapper’s 'Street Sermons' debut. It’s the latest and strongest addition to the recent wave of “ghetto gospel” tracks, where trap production and street themes mingle with uplifting messages and melodies you’d hear at Sunday service. Morray is easy to root for: stints on the wrong side of the law led to his subsequent reaffirmation in faith and family. He even considered donning the cloth and becoming a pastor. Instead, breakout track “Quicksand” has made him the shepherd of a different kind of flock. Kids are dancing along to it in the pews of TikTok; and, like the rare homily that holds your attention from beginning to end, ‘Street Sermons’ is an engaging listen from front to back. Turn up the speakers on “Quicksand” and “Trenches," and watch the man deliver truth from our Ctrl pulpit.

How does an R&B singer get to Los Angeles from Indianapolis to pursue the music dream? For Maeta, it all started with Leona Lewis’ “Bleeding Love." “I remember it came on MTV Top 20 Countdown and I just wanted to be her so bad.” Like many of us, the 21-year-old Illinois native's career started rolling when covers posted on the 'Gram gained traction; people loved hearing her low-key spins on Drake’s “Take Care” and Kehlani’s “Toxic.” Around the same time, she began drawing lyrics from her romantic relationships. Those original songs went up on Soundcloud, and more heads turned her way. Confidence was her main artistic attribute and signature message. It’s there on her “Habits” EP, recently released on Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label. Each song exudes her signature self-assured cool. The project features collabs with rapper Buddy and R&B crooner BEAM, and its big name producers - Skrillex, Kaytranada and Mustard - come through to give 'Habits' a polished feel. Maeta used the DSCVR stage to let her soulful side shine. These performances of “Habits” and “Bitch Don’t Be Mad" are truly impressive.

Demi Lovato: Sorry Not Sorry (Vevo X Demi Lovato)

Demi Lovato loves to perform, and her songs invariably offer fans a deep impact when she steps in front of a mic. To celebrate the arrival of her sixth studio album, ‘Tell Me You Love Me,’ the pop superstar put together a large ensemble that brought true emotional power to the record’s title track and “Sorry Not Sorry.” Superb instrumentalists, a full-on choir, Demi’s amazing voice leading the charge – the two new performances in our ‘Vevo X Demi Lovato’ session find her reimagining the tracks from the ground up. She introduced them to the world on ‘Vevo Live: Demi Lovato,’ where she also chatted with fans and explained how ‘Tell Me You Love Me’ was made. The album was released on September 29.
