Sech is from Panama, a country with deep roots in reggaeton. Some music historians say the ’70s arrival of Afro-Caribbean workers constructing the famed canal is Spanish music’s primary introduction of the now-essential dembow riddim. Born and raised in the country’s capital, Sech knows it’s important to properly rep the region...and he has. Massive hits such as “Relacion,” “PORFA,” and “Ignorantes” have featured the 27-year-old spitter, he and Bad Bunny even performed the latter on Jimmy Fallon. Though currently working at an impressive album-a-year pace, Sech found time to hit our Brooklyn studio for live takes of tracks off his latest album, ‘42.’ The title is a tribute to the trailblazing baseball legend Jackie Robinson. “Wao” and “¿Qué Somos?” have plenty of bounce. But there are little extra feels in play, too. As he has said, the music from this album comes straight from the heart.

Nothing's gonna stop Lucky Daye - he’s been smashing through walls his whole life. David Debrandon Brown grew up in a New Orleans home that banned secular music, but on the sly, he still managed to have fun cranking up The Gap Band. When Hurricane Katrina ravaged the city and his family moved to Texas, Lucky began dreaming of a music career, and got some positive feedback during a stint in ATL. A road trip to Los Angeles connected the proud Libra with producer D Mile, and in an instance of cosmic luck, the duo refined their take on groove music and developed a singular plan: “Let’s get funky, let’s get musical and let’s get unorthodox lyrically.” The result? Four Grammy noms for ‘Painted.’ Not bad for a debut album, which includes “Call,” a samba-infused plea for romantic communication, and “Fade Away,” which is part of ‘The Photograph’ soundtrack. Louisville, Kentucky's Clarksville projects are just south of the Ohio River, just east of the Second Street Bridge, where Muhammed Ali stood tall and heaved his Olympic Gold Medal into the murky waters below in a protest against the racism surrounding him. Est Gee came up in the Clarksville grid, and his tough sound, brimming with the kind of swag Ali was famous for, grabs you and shakes you around a bit. There's poise and balance at play, but from last year's "Special Remix" ft. Moneybagg Yo to the recent "Ball Forever," an ornery vibe underlies his approach. Trouble has been part of Gee's life, and everything he spits has a rough edge...and it's all dope as hell. At the age of 26, that sound is probably here to stay, and in the last year, Gee's been getting plenty of dap from rappers who like it just the way it is. Evidently 42 Dugg played a handful of Gee tracks for Lil Baby, and the "Drip Too Hard" star wanted him to be part of the Quality Control squad. No go, tho. Gee had already shaken hands with Yo Gotti, and the CMG team. That recent victory must've felt nice after a couple of tough years. In the fall of 2019 Gee was shot and almost went blind. On the mend, he put together the one-two punch of 'Ion Feel Nun' and 'I Still Don't Feel Nun.' This year he jumped on Baby's "Real As It Gets" and his visibility jumped big-time. Digga D - Gun Man Sound. An exclusive performance for Vevo DSCVR, the channel for the best in new music.

There's no shortage of rappers who, for various reasons, find themselves on the wrong side of the law. Digga D, however, adds a unique chapter to the tradition of freely speaking your mind and suffering the consequences. It starts with the 2015 formation of the West London MC's drill collective, 1011. Barely a teen at the time, Digga and his crew gained notoriety throughout the city with raw tracks like “Kill Confirmed” and “No Hook.” Their rough and sometimes deeply specific lyrics put 'em on the cops' radar, and in 2017 a police stop-and-search led to charges of conspiracy to commit violent disorder. A Criminal Behavior Order forced the crew to remove their music videos from YouTube, many of which had amassed millions of views. Didn't solve much; fans just re-uploaded them. Then a judge ordered a ban on Digga using gang-related and violent lyrics in his music. According to the New York Times, other British drill artists have been handed similar orders. But Digga is unique in his growing popularity and massive potential. The 20-year-old recently recorded and released ‘Made In The Pyrex,’ the country's highest-charting album from a UK rapper born in the 2000s. The album proves two things about Digga. The fans are on his side, and his past hasn’t killed his future. Unmistakable in these Dscvr performances of “Bluuwuu” and “Gun Man Sound" is a fully unique flow and deep emotional force. Not hard to see why Digga's influence has such an impact.

In a music world where indifference towards pop success can bolster cred, Bella Latham admits her desire for superstardom. “Since I was 11, I just ruthlessly wanted to be the biggest artist in the world,” she’s said. That refreshing honesty, which permeates lyrics covering everything from social observations to accounts of crazed parties, has endeared a steadily growing fanbase. Fousheé’s “Deep End” has almost certainly graced the eardrums of frequent TikTok visitors. But the story behind the song’s prevalence is a little more complicated than the alt-soul singer cashing in on viral fame. Initially, Brooklyn rapper Sleepy Hollow sampled her airy hook - “I’m about to go off the deep end” - without giving credit to this former contestant on 'The Voice.' Frustratingly for Fousheé, that version blew up. Undeterred, she fought to make the best of the situation, working with TikTok to eventually get her name on Sleepy Hollow’s song. The vid for “Deep End” embraces the track’s history. “It’s about fighting to get what’s due, because it isn’t always going to be handed to you,” she says of the vid in which she literally does battle with a creepy stalker. The carefree follow-up, “single af,” solidifies her artistic essence as a fierce advocate for Black female independence and empowerment. Needless to say, we’re big fans of that ethos, so it was a pleasure to welcome Team Fousheé into the DSCVR studio, where she delivered an exclusive performance of her new track, “sing about love.” “I want to be a shining example to Black women everywhere,” she says. With March being Women’s History Month, it’s that much more special to share an artist of this character with music fans.

Lagos native Damini Ogulu was only in grammar school when he came across the FruityLoops software that was popular for tracking beats on home computers. He's been creating music ever since, absorbing the diaspora from dancehall to DMX, and using the name Burna Boy, has really lit a flame on the global dance scene. The music biz was in his blood; his grandfather was Fela Kuti's first manager. But he did the hard work it takes to make a true dent. From 2012's "Like To Party" grooves to the kinetics of this year's "On The Low," he's crafted some of the strongest beats around. To celebrate the arrival of his 'African Giant' album, he came to deliver performances of "Collatoral Damage" and "Anybody."
