Conan Gray - Maniac - an exclusive live performance for Vevo DSCVR ARTISTS TO WATCH 2020, an annual series highlighting those that are shaping the future of music.

Life goes by slowly in the Texas suburbs, and Conan Gray captured the doldrums of his high school senior year in his first Indie song, "Idle Town." When the video hit his YouTube channel, it resonated deeply; after two and a half years, it's closing in on 15M views. The craft and catchiness of Gray’s music is central to his broad skill set. Gray said that once he began writing songs and sharing them with the world, he just wanted to do it more and more. After connecting with an LA producer and refining that craft, "Generation Why" and "Crush Culture" solidified a sturdy career path. Long story short? Conan Gray is going places. While enjoying a parade of positive press, he's opened for Panic! At the Disco and made a splash at the UK’s The Great Escape festival. The videos for "Maniac" and "Comfort Crowd" also prove Gray isn’t shy in front of a camera - flaunting a natural charisma is his strong suit. He performed both of those tracks in our Brooklyn studio, and fans are gonna love 'em.

Julia Michaels – “Falling For Boys” (Live Performance)

It's been nothing but advancements for Julia Michaels. A couple years ago the celebrated songwriter started singing her own tunes and discovered her own voice suited them just as well as those artists she'd been penning hits for. That's when we made her our LIFT artist. She delivered some strong performances then, and recently stopped by our studios to knock out gripping versions of her new songs, "Hurt Again" and "Falling For Boys."

Surf Mesa - ily (i love you baby). An exclusive live performance for Vevo DSCVR ARTISTS TO WATCH 2021, an annual series highlighting those that are shaping the future of music.

Powell Aguirre has a great imagination - you can hear it in his music. So the up ‘n’ coming producer, reppin’ Seattle via LA, presents himself as Surf Mesa. Relatively unknown until last year, the 20-year-old caught a monster wave with a sample of singer Emilee Flood’s cover of Franki Valli's’ “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.” This July, “ily (i love you baby)” became RIAA-certified gold behind the song's breezy familiarity; it quickly became ubiquitous on TikTok. Surf has used this popularity to become even more inventive. Recent highlights include remixes for both Halsey and Marshmello. The college dropout recently delivered his first post-“ily” track. Featuring Gus Dapperton on vocals, “Somewhere” glides along on ethereal synths and drum-machine fills - it’s rich and full of feeling. The young producer has quickly leapt from what he calls the “budget EDM” of his Soundcloud days. Because he doesn’t sing, his Artists To Watch performances required some special guests. Gus kindly joined for “Somewhere” and a pair of violinists and vocalists (singers Melissa McMillan and Miranda Joan, and instrumentalists Francesca Dardani and Tia Allen) surrounded him for “ily.” Be sure to watch ‘em both. Each has plenty of liftoff.

Zoe Wees - Hold Me Like You Used To. An exclusive performance for Vevo DSCVR, the channel for the best in new music.

Zoe Wees has only released a handful of songs, but she already feels like a force to be reckoned with. The German powerhouse grew up in Hamburg, where she spent time crafting songs in English and honing her guitar and piano skills. Covers of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” and Lewis Capaldi’s “Someone You Loved” are some of the earliest posts on her YouTube channel. But Wees always had her own story to tell. “Control” is a power ballad inspired by her battles with benign rolandic epilepsy and the mental anguish it caused. Her breakout debut, it struck a chord; “Control” has been watched more than 40 million times. Next on Zoe’s to-do list was tackling the unfair beauty standards perpetuated by social media. So the Jessie J acolyte dropped “Girls Like Us,” a marching song for those battling the myths of physical perfection. Again, Wees’ effort was met with applause from both fans and critics. “I love dark songs, I love deep songs. Music was my diary. It still is,” she’s said. In a way, both her debut EP ‘Golden Wings’ and our DSCVR performances of “Girls Like Us” and “Hold Me Like You Used To” feel like she’s giving us a glimpse into personal journal entries. We’re lucky she’s so candid.

Olivia Rodrigo - favorite crime (Official Live Performance) | Vevo

Acting isn’t the only thing that Olivia Rodrigo is great at. When the ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ star dropped her “drivers license” video back at the start of the year, the overwhelming response made it clear that she had a way of deeply communicating with listeners not only as an actor, but as an artist. Views-wise, it crossed the 200-million mark in just four months. Pretty impressive for someone who had never put out an album on her own. Rodrigo, who proved “drivers license” was no fluke when “deja vu” also hit a home run upon release last month, is fixing that. Her ‘Sour’ debut arrives on May 21, and by the time it gets here, she will have performed at both the BRIT Awards and Saturday Night Live. Billboard reports that the 18-year-old pop phenom is the “first artist to send her first two proper singles straight into the Hot 100’s top 10.” The SoCal native, who wrote “driver’s license” with her pal Dan Nigro, recently told the press that she was obsessed with emotions, and loved her jobs as both actor and musician because they allow her to be so expressive. We’re thrilled that we got to work with Olivia on designing our exclusive LIFT content. A few weeks ago we hit L.A., connected with Team Rodrigo, and came home with the kind of pieces that will give fans a revealing look into the singer’s personality: two unique performances and an exclusive interview portrait. ‘favorite crime’ captures that feeling of letting your thoughts drift while at home in your teenage bedroom. “These pieces look amazing on film,” says Rodrigo. “It captures the tone of my work in a really powerful way.” Hang tight, there’s more Olivia on the way.

Billie Eilish - when the party’s over - Live Performance (Vevo LIFT Live Sessions)

Don’t bother to pigeonhole Billie Eilish. She zigs while you zag, forcing a periodic reassessment of your take on her. And know what? That’s the sign of a true artist, someone whose curiosity is in lock-step with their creativity. It’s a long way from the heart-on-sleeve delicacy of "Ocean Eyes" to the eerie rumble of "you should see me in a crown," so here's a heads up: Billie's always on the move; the LA teen has steadily widened her sound in the last two years. When her name first bubbled up in 2016, her music had both an ethereal vibe and a wisdom that belied her years. That's when we began falling for her, and shot our Vevo Meets profile. After hearing the depth of her 'don't smile at me' debut, we invited Billie to be part of our DSCVR and LIFT programs. Now she's turned another corner. When she hit Brooklyn get close to her fans in the LIFT Live shows, she was in top form. Watch her prowl the stage on "when the party's over," "you should see me in a crown," and "bellyache." She gets more and more compelling every month.

Dylan Fuentes - La Pena. An exclusive live performance for Vevo DSCVR ARTISTS TO WATCH 2021, an annual series highlighting those that are shaping the future of music.

Topping the charts in both his home country of Colombia and around the world. Charming Netflix crowds with his acting skills in the witchy ‘Siempre Bruja’ series. What can’t Dylan Fuentes do? Born and raised in the seaport city of Barranquilla, the 23-year-old is part of a legacy carved out by contemporaries such as J Balvin, Maluma and Karol G. That is: Fuentes is a prime example of Colombia producing talent capable of opening the world’s eyes to Latin music’s extraordinary value. He got the ball rolling with 2018’s “Uber Sex,” and last year gained momentum by uniting with Mike Towers on “Ajena.” Enter reggaeton superstar producer Tainy, who saw the artistic possibilities. He signed Fuentes to his NEON16 talent incubator earlier this year. With its Afrobeat echoes, “Bipolar” was the partnership’s first fruit. The impact of the relationship now has Fuentes in cahoots with Latin A-listers like Mau y Ricky, Lennox and Justin Quiles, not to mention Tainy himself. His rise isn’t only about the clout of relationships, of course. "Singing is literally all I wanted to do - I never wanted to go to school or do my homework," he’s said. Obviously the dude’s got the perfect cocktail of drive and talent. You’ll see the latter in his DSCVR Artists To Watch 2021 performances. Trading Tainy and Mau y Ricky for a keyboard, the first minute of “Mente” is wildly fetching. And that wink at the three-minute mark? Swoon. Guy knows how to win over an audience. Check his performance of that one and “La Pena.” Couldn’t think of a better person to close out our series aimed at bringing you the future of music. He’s definitely on the path.

The music on Lorde's 'Melodrama' reflects the wealth of emotions the New Zealand native has experienced of late, and they’re rendered with the kind of poise we’ve come to expect from the pop superstar. Her voice, the melodies, the arrangements she’s chosen to help landscape her feelings - this critically-acclaimed second album is particularly fetching because the 20-year-old singer trusts her idiosyncrasies to fuel her eloquence. “Let’s let things come out of the woodwork,” she coos on “Homemade Dynamite.” That’s what makes the six performances of ‘VEVO X Lorde’ so powerful as well. All her best ideas naturally seep to the surface. Filmed at Electric Lady Sound Studios in New York’s West Village, the mid-August session found Lorde moving through key songs from ‘Melodrama,’ providing each with the proper temperament for the occasion. The set list features “The Louvre,” “Sober,” “Writer In The Dark,” “Supercut,” “Homemade Dynamite,” and “Hard Feelings”/ “Loveless” – she chose to spotlight some of the album’s most vivid moments. Whether backed by a small ensemble, playing the piano alone, or singing a cappella with a squad of vocalists and a beatbox, she brings invention and intensity to the performances. The soft addition of strings and brass adds to the show’s intimacy, and the drama that she’s built a rep on is central to every moment. Jack Antonoff of Bleachers, who produced and co-wrote parts of ‘Melodrama,’ arrives on “Writer In The Dark” to support his pal as well.

Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
Well, summer slipped us underneath her tongue
Our days and nights are perfumed with obsession
Half of my wardrobe is on your bedroom floor
Use our eyes, throw our hands overboard

[Verse 2]
I am your sweetheart psychopathic crush
Drink up your movements, still I can't get enough
I overthink your punctuation use
Not my fault, just a thing that my mind do

[Pre-Chorus]
A rush at the beginning
I get caught up, just for a minute
But lover, you're the one to blame
All that you’re doing
Can you hear the violence?
Megaphone to my chest
Broadcast the boom, boom, boom, boom
And make 'em all dance to it

[Chorus]
Broadcast the boom, boom, boom, boom
And make 'em all dance to it
Broadcast the boom, boom, boom, boom
And make 'em all dance to it
Broadcast the boom, boom, boom, boom
And make 'em all dance to it
Broadcast the boom, boom, boom, boom
And make 'em all dance to it

[Verse 3]
Our thing progresses
I call and you come through
Blow all my friendships
To sit in hell with you
But we’re the greatest
They’ll hang us in the Louvre
Down the back, but who cares—still the Louvre
Okay I know that you are not my type
(still I fall)
I’m just the sucker who let you fill her mind
(but what about love?)
Nothing wrong with it
Supernatural
Just move in close to me, closer, you’ll feel it coasting

[Pre-Chorus]
A rush at the beginning
I get caught up, just for a minute
But lover, you're the one to blame
All that you’re doing
Can you hear the violence?
Megaphone to my chest
Broadcast the boom, boom, boom, boom
And make 'em all dance to it

[Chorus]
Broadcast the boom, boom, boom, boom
And make 'em all dance to it
Broadcast the boom, boom, boom, boom
And make 'em all dance to it
Broadcast the boom, boom, boom, boom
And make 'em all dance to it
Broadcast the boom, boom, boom, boom
And make 'em all dance to it

Now she's turned another corner. The dreamy aura she brought to her recent duet with Khalid on "Lovely" was stunning, and the swag and authority that define her new LIFT performances serves the music well. In a week or so, we'll also premiere an intimate profile, so be here to learn more about Billie Eilish.

About Moana:
For centuries, the greatest sailors in the world masterfully navigated the vast Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, 3,000 years ago, their voyages stopped for a millennium – and no one knows exactly why. From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes “Moana,” a sweeping, CG-animated feature film about an adventurous teenager who is inspired to leave the safety and security of her island on a daring journey to save her people. Inexplicably drawn to the ocean, Moana (voice of Auliʻi Cravalho) convinces the mighty demigod Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson) to join her mission, and he reluctantly helps her become a wayfinder like her ancestors who sailed before her. Together, they voyage across the open ocean on an action-packed adventure, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, and along the way, Moana fulfills her quest and discovers the one thing she’s always sought: her own identity. Directed by the renowned filmmaking team of Ron Clements and John Musker (“The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin,” “The Princess & the Frog”), produced by Osnat Shurer (“Lifted,” “One Man Band”), and featuring music by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foa‘i, “Moana” sailed into U.S. theaters on Nov. 23, 2016.

Central Cee - Commitment Issues. An exclusive performance for Vevo DSCVR, the channel for the best in new music.

It’s easy to tell when a rapper has freestyle chops, like Central Cee does. The West London 22-year-old frequently hits on the familiar drill subjects - violence, drugs, money, etc. But teenage Cee made a name for himself in the hood, on the corner, bundling intricate turns of phrase that were by turns humorous, revealing, and self-aware. “Every time that I rap ’bout hoes / I know that you hate those lyrics,” he admits to a romantic muse on “Commitment Issues.” That’s a rare level of vulnerability in the Kevlar-wrapped world of drill and trap. “Commitment Issues'' is from Cee’s self-released ‘Wild West’ debut mixtape, a 14-track cocktail of aggression and wit that's drawn love from fans and critics, ultimately hitting #3 on the UK charts. That’s a rarity for an indie drill album. Multiple “Wild West” tracks have comfortably zoomed past seven-figures in views/streams. We have a feeling this “Commitment Issues” DSCVR performance is gonna be hot, too.
